My Review:

This is the second in the Skindancer series.  I have to say I was very excited to read this and had such high hopes but they were dashed upon some wordy rocks.  This book was way to detailed and it was exhausting to read and follow all of the MANY aspects to the plot.  I felt there were quite a few things that could have been omitted and made the book flow better, not seem so bogged down with side plots.  One BIG part of the book that could have been deleted was the whole custody issue with Cinnamon.  I also found it hard to follow some of the slang and terminology used to describe some of the scientific issues and Cinnamon's Math terms.

I have to say the writer did bring everything together at the end and none of it seemed out of place but there was just so much going on in this book I found my self wishing it would all just come to a conclusion half way through.

It did have a good plot hidden in there and leads to a great place for the third book to take place but again WAY TO MUCH was stuffed into this book.  I did enjoy Dakota's relationship with 'Cally' and the surprises about Cinnamon and her education issues was a good addition1, but I felt they were concentrated on too much an I wish the writer and done more details about Cinnamon's teacher, Vlad.  I can only hope he makes more of an appearance in the second book.

Hidden Summit by Robyn Carr

Goodreads Description:

Sick of running into her cheery ex-husband and his new wife, Leslie Petruso accepts a job at the Virgin River branch of Haggerty Construction and takes the high road right out of town. Now she's got Paul Haggerty's business running like a well-oiled machine. In fact, things are so busy Paul jumps at the chance to hire an extra set of hands.
Just like Leslie, Conner Danson has been burned by love. But if Leslie was disappointed by her relationship going bad, Conner was decimated. He's got no time for women…although he spends an awful lot of time pretending not to notice Leslie. And she's pretty busy "ignoring" the chemistry between them.
According to Conner and Leslie, they have only one thing in common—they're done with love. But everyone in Virgin River can see that things are heating up at Haggerty Construction. And as far as Paul Haggerty can tell, the best thing he can do is hang on to his hard hat and watch the sparks fly!

My Rating:

My Review:

I have never read any of Robyn Carr's books prior to this book. I was a little apprehensive to start so far down in the series, but this book totally stood alone!

Conner is a good blue collared business owner who witnesses a murder while taking the trash out from his small business. That night totally changed Connors life! He had to go into protective custody and his sister and twin nephews had to be moved to protect them as well. Conner just wants to get back to his life when he goes to Virgin River to hid out. He never expects to meet the perfect woman or finally over come the betrayal of his ex-wifes infidelity.

Leslie, fed up with her ex husband wanting to be friends and seeing him and his new pregnant wife everywhere, goes to Virgin River to start over and find herself. And boy does she in the form of Connor!

Their romance is very realistic with all the problems and issues normal couples have to address and I love how hot and passionate they are! I found Connor to be a very brave and moral man who was doing all he could to take care of all his loved ones and himself! The only reason this didn't get a 5 is because I thought the ending was too abrupt and I was left wanting a more solid conclusion! But I expect that like in most series, their story will be touched on in the next in the series, Redwood Bend. Redwood Bend is coming out February 28th! I know I can't wait to read it!

Rainshadow Road by Lisa Kleypas

Goodread Description:

Lucy Marinn is a glass artist living in mystical, beautiful, Friday Harbor, Washington. She is stunned and blindsided by the most bitter kind of betrayal: her fiancĂ© Kevin has left her. His new lover is Lucy’s own sister. Lucy's bitterness over being dumped is multiplied by the fact that she has constantly made the wrong choices in her romantic life. Facing the severe disapproval of Lucy's parents, Kevin asks his friend Sam Nolan, a local vineyard owner on San Juan Island, to "romance" Lucy and hopefully loosen her up and get her over her anger. Complications ensue when Sam and Lucy begin to fall in love, Kevin has second thoughts, and Lucy discovers that the new relationship in her life began under false pretenses. Questions about love, loyalty, old patterns, mistakes, and new beginnings are explored as Lucy learns that some things in life—even after being broken—can be made into something new and beautiful.

My Rating:

My Review:

I was very excited to receive this book and in fact I read it in less then 5 hours and in a straight shot, only breaking to eat dinner!   I was highly anticipating this book after reading Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor and this book did not disappoint!  It took the characters and environment created in Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor and developed it and spun a wonderful romantic story.

Lucy suffers a great big blow when the man she lives with and she thinks she loves, admits he was cheating on her and leaving her for her sister!  Lucy moves in with two girlfriends who own a Bed and Breakfast and starts to heal, meeting Sam a time or two but always in awkward situations.  When Lucy get's hit by a car, Sam and her and thrown together in a situation that helps them build their romance, though again in realistically awkward situations.  There is great witty banter between Lucy and Sam and quite a few memorable sentences that had me laughing out loud.

There is a aspect of Magic in this story, which I wouldn't go too in depth about,  but Lisa writes it in a way that feels entirely plausible.  I will say that the stain glass window Lucy creates for the Victorian house and the scene where the Magic comes alive for Sam and Alex is amazing and one of my favorite scenes in the story.  I got chills and the foreshadowing it creates for the future books is AMAZING!

All in all, a fantastic book written by Lisa Kleypas.  and I Highly Recommend to anyone who loves Contemporary Romances or even Romances with a hint of Paranormal.

The Irish Healer by Nancy Herriman ----- Publication Date: April 03, 2012

Goodreads Description:

Accused of murdering a child under her care, Irish healer Rachel Dunne flees the ensuing scandal while vowing to never sit at another sickbed. She no longer trusts in her abilities—or God’s mercy. But when a cholera epidemic sweeps through London, she feels compelled to nurse the dying daughter of the enigmatic physician she has come to love. James Edmunds, wearied by the deaths of too many patients, has his own doubts about God’s grace. Can they each face their darkest fears? Or is it too late to learn that trust and love just might heal their hearts?

My Rating:

My Review:

I enjoyed the read but it wasn't fantastic to me.  I felt for Rachel and how she was persecuted by her townfolk for trying to help, as many midwives and healers were.  Even though a court of law found her innocent the father of patient who passed is making Rachel's life miserable so she leaves her town an head to England to work as an Assistant for Dr. James Edmunds.  Rachel's cousin, Clair, is of great help in finding her this situation until Rachel can secure a teaching position.  From the start there is a connection between Rachel and James, down to the typical shock many romances have when they first touch.  Through out the book, Rachel is put in situations that make her lean on her old healing learning's and remember what happened in her home town in Ireland.  It isn't until tragedy strikes close and personally that Rachel re-evaluates her life and realizes she can still be a healer.

There is a lot of 'God Talk' in this book and I'm not any where near a overly religious person.  So at times I got a little gagging sensation when the characters talk about anything religious.  However for some people they don't mind or are religious individuals and so won't be turned off by that heavy religious under (Over) tones.  I also thought that the romance between James and Rachel's romance wasn't very prominent and then all of a sudden James is declaring his love for her and proposing.  I know that historically that was probably how it was done so it was probably historically accurate but me being a modern woman I prefer to see more romantic gestures of love and romance in general in a romance story.

All in all, it's a ok read but by no means my favorite or one I'd highly recommend.

A Kiss to Remember by Teresa Medeiros

Goodreads Description:

AWAKENED BY A KISS

When she finds a mysterious stranger with the face of an angel and the body of Adonis unconscious in the forest and with no memory of his name or his past, she decides to claim him for her own. Little does she know that her fallen angel is really the devil in disguise.

Sterling Harlow, the notorious rakehell known as the “Devil of Devonbrooke,” awakens to the enchanting kiss of a lovely young woman who informs him he is her long-lost betrothed. With her sun-kissed cheeks and smattering of freckles, she looks every inch the innocent, but her curves possess a woman’s allure. When she assures him he is the perfect gentleman, he wonders if he’s lost his wits as well as his memory. He would have sworn he was not a man to be satisfied with mere kisses—especially from lips as sweet and luscious as Laura’s.As he attempts to uncover the truth before their wedding night, A Kiss To Rememberignites a passion neither of them will ever be able to forget....

My Rating:

My Review:

I found this book witty and fun.  I loved Laura's imagination and quickly created lies.  I felt her desperation but I don't think even I would expect anything good to come from fooling a man with amnesia that he is your betrothed. But she was desperate and I can understand that.  I found Sterlings past sad but I felt his actions through out the book are believable and so it seems like a realistic romance.   I did like Sterlings Cousins side story as well and I hope they make an appearance in the next book!  The ending was typical and a happy ever ending.  I didn't give this a 5 out of 5 because it didn't have much of a secondary plot.  I like romances with mystery or secondary plots more then straight romances.  That aside this was a very good book and I can't wait to get my hands on the second in the series!

Daughter of the Centaurs by Kate Klimo

Goodreads Description:

Malora knows what she was born to be: a horse wrangler and a hunter, just like her father. But when her people are massacred by batlike monsters called Leatherwings, Malora will need her horse skills just to survive. The last living human, Malora roams the wilderness at the head of a band of magnificent horses, relying only on her own wits, strength, and courage. When she is captured by a group of centaurs and taken to their city, Malora must decide whether the comforts of her new home and family are worth the parts of herself she must sacrifice to keep them.

Kate Klimo has masterfully created a new world, which at first seems to be an ancient one or perhaps another world altogether, but is in fact set on earth sometime far in the future.

My Rating:

My Review:

This story is both sad and happy.  Malora lives a simple happy life with her mother and father and the other settlement residents until a leather winged beast attacks their settlement and first takes all the men and horses but one.  The beasts come back and attack the women and children and as a last ditched effort to save her daughter, Malora's mother send her out into the bush away from danger.  While Malora is out in the bush she rescues and cares for a flock of horses.  She returns to her settlement years later and everyone is dead.  While there she and her herd of horses are captured by Centaurs.  Orrin is looking for Fury's (wild horses) for his dad to use to win the most coveted horse racing trophy.  He got more then just horses when they find Malora.  She is adaptable to this new life style the Centaurs show her but she can't seem to give up some of her 'wild' ways.

This story is about loss and finding ones self in a strange new situation.  It's a good read but the writing is somewhat awkward.  I found the tensing of the dialogue somewhat unusual at points.  It helps give Malora's words a certain wild aspect in some ways but I just felt it could have been worked over a little more an made cleaner.  I am still glad I read it and I hope there are more from this enchanting world, Kate Klimo created.  This is a very unique world based in the future where Centaurs and other mythical beasts rule the land and humans are all thought to be extinct until Malora shows up.  Kate Klimoa spins an very cleaver unique story that I'm glad I got to read!

Seduction and Scandal by Charlotte Featherstone

Goodreads Description:

She saves her deepest desires for the novel she dares to pen, wherein a handsome lord with dark powers seduces her. But then her courtship with an appropriate suitor is threatened by the sudden attentions of the reclusive Earl of Black…whose pale blue eyes and brooding sensuality are exactly as she described in her book.
Isabella tries to resist the mysterious Earl of Black.
Yet as he pursues her, with inexplicable knowledge of her past and kisses that consume her, Isabella fears she will succumb.
If only the earl could tell Isabella the truth. With very real, and treacherous, thieves endangering her life, Black will need to protect Isabella from the very people she trusts the most….

My Rating:

My Review:

I devoured this book in less then a day, in between playing with my 4 yr old and 20 month old!  That must tell you something!  The two main characters are Isabella Fairmont and The Earl of Black.  Isabella, who's mother was ruined and lived in Yorkshire with her mother and Isabella until both Isabella's mother and grandmother pass along.  Isabella's prospects are none existent and one evening she does something stupid an is saved by who she thinks is Lord Death.  Years later Isabella is living with her Titled uncle and cousin and is writing a novel about Lord Death.  The Earl of Black believes he's cursed due to his families Templar connections and the three tragic deaths he is connected to in his past.  You find out that Black is the person who saved Isabella and in fact has been in love with her for 2 years with out even having a conversation with her.  This book has a great romance and wonderful mystery.  The Templar artifacts have been stolen and Black and the two other Templar descendants are trying to find them and figure out who in their Freemason lodge has betrayed them but Black can't stop his thoughts and actions towards Isabella.  I love the secondary story of Isabella's Cousin, Lucy, and Lord Sussex.  I can't wait to get the second book and see their romance form and see the next step in solving this mystery of betrayal.

But Simon dares not love again—for fragile love can be lost in an instant. And now Annabel must find a way to open his heart to the most glorious risk of all . . .

My Rating:

My Review:

I didn't realize I hadn't reviewed this book until I got it out again and realized I'd already read it.

Lord Blackwell was horribly injured trying to save his sons and wife from a fire.  He became a recluse avoiding anything that made him feel until he met Annabel McBride.  Their romance is amazing and powerful.  I experienced all the emotions in this book, but there are more happy then sad.  It is a happy ever ending!  Love this series so I highly recommend!

Unveiled by Courtney Milan

Goodreads Description:

Ash Turner has waited a lifetime to seek revenge on the man who ruined his family—and now the time for justice has arrived. At Parford Manor, he intends to take his place as the rightful heir to the dukedom and settle an old score with the current duke once and for all. But instead he finds himself drawn to a tempting beauty who has the power to undo all his dreams of vengeance….
Lady Margaret knows she should despise the man who's stolen her fortune and her father's legacy—the man she's been ordered to spy on in the guise of a nurse. Yet the more she learns about the new duke, the less she can resist his smoldering appeal. Soon Margaret and Ash find themselves torn between old loyalties—and the tantalizing promise of passion….

My Rating:

My Review:

I had read the second in this series first and had to get my hands on this first one.  And I am so glad I did.

Ash's story is intense and full of misery but he takes his life and makes the best of it and gets revenge for the death of his sister and the horrible lives his brothers had as children due to his relations lack of assistance and caring, the Duke of Parford.  On his arrival to the Parford Manor he sees Margaret, who he's told is the old Duke's Nurse, but in reality is his daughter and is there to spy on Ash to find faults to help her brothers win an act in Parliament to prevent Ash from becoming the Duke and marking all of the current Dukes children Bastards.  You see, the old Duke married very young and his parents didn't approve so they sent the woman to America and he married again an had children, in effect becoming a Bigamist.

This story is a typical two people who are 'enemies' fall in love.  BUT there are some great differences that make this a great book to read.  I absolutely LOVE the ending and I loved seeing Margaret bloom into the self assured woman she ended up becoming.  I also enjoyed seeing Mark, Ash's younger brother, especially since I had already read his story.  Which I can tell you is great!

A Victorian Christmas by Catherine Palmer

Goodreads Description:

A beautiful patchwork of four novellas about love and joy at Christmastime by best selling author Catherine Palmer. These four novellas were previously published in four anthologies: A Victorian Christmas Quilt, A Victorian Christmas Tea, A Victorian Christmas Cottage, and A Victorian Christmas Keepsake.

Return to a time when life was uncomplicated, faith was sincere … and love was a gift to be cherished forever. Includes author's favorite holiday recipes.

My Rating:

My Review:

I got this for free on Amazon.  It has a HEAVY religious tone, and I'm really not that into that.  But the stories are decent.  Just not my cut of tea.  But specifically there are 4 stores in this book and at the end of each there is a yummy recipe which I did love and I copied them all down to try!  They are all happy endings, which is good.  However they seemed far fetched in some cases, due to them believing 100% in God taking control of their fate, especially the last story.  If you are into Religious Historical Romance Short Stories then this book is for me.  Unfortunately I am not into that so I gave it a 2.

Winning the Wallflower by Eloisa James

Goodreads Description:

It could only happen in a fairy tale.
Lady Lucy Towerton:
Plain and tall. (According to the lady herself.)
Titled and irreproachably proper. (According to her fiancÉ.)
Until, overnight, she becomes
Lady Lucy Towerton:
Heiress. (Thanks to an aged aunt’s bequest.)
Belle of the ball. (So say the fortune hunters of the ton.)
In charge of her own destiny (finally!), Lucy breaks her engagement and makes up her mind never to be proper again…

NOTE: This novella is related to "The Duke Is Mine" and includes Olivia Lytton.
My Rating:

My Review:

I enjoyed this story.  It was a nice blend of the two series by Eloisa James (Wallflower and Happily Ever Afters)  I highly enjoyed Lucy's Character.  She held her own and pushed for what she wanted instead of settling for a fortune hunter or a man who wants her only because she is a wallflower.  Lucy's wanting no less then love and honesty makes her ex fiance really look at her for the first time.  Very sweet romance and I love the ending.  I don't want to give anything away but as it states this is a Happily Ever After ending.  Cyrus and Lucy's story is great and it ends better then you can imagine.

In Total Surrender by Anne Mallory

Goodreads Description:

Andreas Merrick is the king of London's dark underworld, having amassed unimaginable wealth and power...and a fierce reputation that leaves even the bravest men quaking in their boots. Yet one person is maddeningly unintimidated by his fearsome presence: the persistent Miss Phoebe Pace.

Equal parts honey and steel, Phoebe will stop at nothing to find her missing brother and save her family. Though associating with Andreas means peril and scandal, she never expects to experience a passion so intense that it threatens to consume her. But enigmatic Andreas is no ordinary man to love. He brings dangers from all sides -- without and within -- while tempting her beyond her wildest dreams...

My Rating:

My Review:

I enjoyed the story and seeing how everything ends with the characters. Andreas and Phoebe's romance is ok but nothing fantastic and in all honesty could have had more potential.  I did enjoy find out why Andreas hated the ton so much and reading about his life.  I also liked the mystery Phoebe was involved in and how strong a female character she was and how she took over a mans world.  The books ending was a disappointment to me but it did wrap everything up nicely.  I can't see another book in the series by the way it was written.  All in all just an ok book.

The Guardian Duke by Jamie Carie

Goodreads Description:

The Guardian Duke is award-winning novelist Jamie Carie’s most exciting story yet, a uniquely arranged Regency-era romantic adventure where hero and heroine know each other through written letters but have yet to meet.
Gabriel, the Duke of St. Easton, is ordered by the King to take guardianship over Lady Alexandria Featherstone whose parents are presumed dead after failing to return from a high profile treasure hunt. But Alexandria ignores this royal reassignment, believing her parents are still alive and duly following clues that may lead to their whereabouts. Gabriel, pressured by what are actually the King’s ulterior motives, pursues her across windswept England and the rolling green hills of Ireland but is always one step behind.
When they do meet, the search for earthly treasure will pale in comparison to what God has planned for both of them.

My Rating:

My Review:

I was drawn in from the very beginning.  I loved the Duke, Gabriel, and felt for him with his hearing issues.  I've heard about seeing noise and it was very interesting to put that concept into this book.  I can't wait to read the second book to find out what he has.  As for Lady Alex, she is strong and brave and lucky to have the two men she found helping her.  I absolutely HATE cliffhanger ending and this book has one so be warned.  I was flipping the pages as fast as I could and then NOTHING...ARGH so frustrating.  I WANT MORE NOW!  The Mystery in this book is FANTASTIC! But to the book itself, Lady Alex is looking for her 2 parents who were hired by the Crown to find a missing manuscript.  Lord Gabriel is looking for Lady Alex because she is in danger and doesn't even know it.  I don't want to say too much but even with the cliffhanger ending it's a must read!

Goodreads Description:

The secret is out . . . Vampires do exist!
When a video reveals to the world that vampires live among us, it’s up to “young” vamp Gregori Holstein, VP of Marketing, to persuade the U.S. government to declare the video a hoax. But first the president wants a favor, one that requires Gregori to spend forty-eight hours in very close contact with the First Daughter.
Abby Tucker would rather spend her nights in a lab than attend her father’s state dinners. She’s dedicated her life to finding a cure that will save her dying mother and needs only two more ingredients. To find them, she’ll have to venture into the most dangerous region of the world—with a vampire. Her Armani-clad escort may be Undead, but he still makes her heart race. And the greatest danger won’t be the predatory hordes lying in wait for them; it will be her undying desire for the Sexiest Vampire Alive.

My Rating:

My Review:

This book made me laugh out loud and that is always a great sign!  I was so happy to read Gregori's story and it didn't disappoint!  Abigail, Abby to her friends, is the oldest daughter to the President and has dedicated her life to saving her mother, who is very sick.  When Gregori is told he has to talk to the President and convince him that Vampires are harmless he didn't expect to meet Abby and have his life flipped upside down.  In an effort to win a understanding with the US Government, The President asks Gregori to help Abby get material needed in China to help her try and save her mother's life.  This is action and romance, and both are right in line with the others in the series.  And if you are a fan of Gregori, like I was, you should most definitely read this book!

My Rating:

My Review:
Great second book in the series. The characters of the first book make appearances but aren't overpoweringly present.  I love the dynamic between Roman and Charlotte.  I love Charlotte's strength and selflessness as well as her hidden depth.  Roman's character reveals more as the book goes on and I highly enjoyed what I read!  Roman and Charlotte are from two different worlds and seem to be different in every way.  However, Roman see's Charlotte is drowning and needs to fly and he helps her realize it's possible to be herself and be just a little selfish.  I loved their romance, and Roman's little notes.  Highly recommend.  Perfectly laid out and paced!
